It was very exciting to travel to Melbourne on Friday June 17 to celebrate with Miss Elith and her family as she was awarded one of ten National Inspirational Teaching Awards.
The ceremony was held in the Grand Ballroom of the Hotel Windsor, which was fittingly lavish for the high quality of teachers receiving awards. Ten teachers from across Australia came together for what will no doubt be the highlight of their careers. As we heard their stories, one clear similarity stood out between them all. Each one demonstrated deep humility about being included in such elite company. There was mutual respect from each of them, who saw their own efforts as simply doing their job. But as we at Urana all know, Miss Elith does so much more than "just her job"! Her passion for teaching, and her determination to provide opportunities for students is what sets her apart.
Professor Stephen Dinham spoke at the ceremony of the importance of high quality teachers in making a real difference for students. He stated: "Life isn't fair, but good teaching and good schools are the best means we have of overcoming disadvantage and opening the doors of opportunity for young people".
Congratulations Miss Elith! You thoroughly deserve your award for the opportunities you provide for young people in Urana, and for your leadership in making Urana Central School such a great learning environment for students.
